What is Smart and Skilled?

Smart and Skilled – A NSW Government initiative

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW vocational education and training system. Under the Smart and Skilled Program, the NSW Government contributes to the cost of each course with the student paying the balance. If you are eligible, you may even qualify for a 100% fee concession or only have to pay a minimum amount towards the course of your choice.

Are you eligible?

If you are aged 15 and over (depending on the course) or looking for work, you may be able to study a fee-free or low-fee course (subsidised by the Government if you meet certain eligibility criteria). Our courses will help you develop the skills you need to get a job!

You may be eligible for Smart and Skilled Funding if you:

  • live or work in New South Wales (or a defined NSW border), or

  • are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander who lives in specific defined interstate NSW border areas;

and are

  • an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder (refugee or asylum seeker), or

  • a New Zealand citizen

and are

  • aged 15 years or older, and

  • have left school, excluding registered home schooling students.
